Philosophy
Lighthouse of Collier believes the client is responsible for deciding what services and training he/she chooses to receive based on the individual’s unique goals and needs. Instructors work with each client in assessing current levels of functioning and basing all plans for training on the client’s goals and input. All training is provided in a manner that respects the client’s personal choices, empowers the client’s ability to advocate for him or herself, strives to improve self-esteem and ultimately improve the client’s ability to maintain independence in personal, vocational and academic pursuits.

Lighthouse of Collier is the only rehabilitation center for blindness and vision loss in Collier County, providing and offering services to many of the children and adults in Collier County who are blind/visually impaired. It is our main focus to empower our clients who are blind and visually impaired to be independent through experiences, education and socialization, leading to an enhanced quality of life for them and their families. Many of our adult clients either hold jobs, or were employed and are in need of additional training in order to continue with successful employment or regain employment using accommodations in the work place.

Lighthouse of Collier is committed to ensuring that all consumers training will be provided by certified and qualified staff with years of training and experience in the field of vision rehabilitation. Instructors meet or exceed all Florida Division of Blind Services contract standards. Lighthouse of Collier is nationally accredited by AER, Association for Education & Rehabilitation of the Blind & Visually Impaired.
History of Lighthouse of Collier, Inc. (LOC)
In 2008, a diverse group of citizens within Collier County came together to investigate and initiate how best to form a local service organization to assist people who are blind or visually impaired and their caregivers. Subsequently, a “Leadership Council” was formed as part of the developmental process. Lighthouse of Collier, Inc. (LOC) was incorporated May 5, 2009. In August 2009 Lighthouse of Collier was granted 501(c)3 status from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Lighthouse of Collier holds a Guidestar Platinum Status.
