The holiday spirit of giving came early for Lighthouse of Collier which serves the visually impaired.
Longtime board member Sue Bookbinder donated $1 million to the nonprofit organization in memory of her late husband, Art Bookbinder. He was one of the founders of Lighthouse of Collier in 2009.
It is the single largest gift to the organization and was announced at its annual benefits dinner Nov. 8.
The organization’s center at 2685 Horseshoe Drive in Naples will be named the Bookbinder Center, where services to the organization’s 300 clients are provided.
The mission of Lighthouse is helping the visually impaired live as independently as possible, Scott Flagel, chief executive officer of the local organization, said.
